Land Acknowledgment

We here at Sharon Museum & Gardens would like to acknowledge that the land we work on, and the land any tours, events, and programming take place on, are the unceded, ancestral homelands of the Anishinabewaki, the Wendake, the Haudenosaunee, and the Mississauga.  We take great pride in the responsibility of being caretakers of this land, and endeavour to do all in our power to respect and maintain the land while acknowledging its history.

We would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, as East Gwillimbury’s closest First Nation community, and recognize the unique relationship the Chippewas have with this territory.

MUSEUM UPDATE

Michael Hanson is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer best known as the founding drummer of Glass Tiger. With an award-winning career that includes 4 Junos, a Grammy nomination, and international acclaim, Hanson now dedicates his time to producing emerging Canadian talent and celebrating his hometown roots in East Gwillimbury. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2025.

On May 23rd, 2025, Michael Hanson released “Holding Hope”, a brand-new single and video to celebrate both his induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and his hometown of Sharon in East Gwillimbury. “Holding Hope” is a heartfelt tribute to the beauty, spirit, and history of East Gwillimbury and the enduring legacy of the Children of Peace, and their work to create a community rooted in democracy, cooperation, and hope.

The song’s music video (directed by local filmmaker Tristan Nugent) was filmed in and around the Sharon Temple, here at Sharon Museum & Gardens. Proceeds from the song and video have been pledged to support Sharon Museum & Gardens, as well as other local arts initiatives. Thank you, Michael!
